Well the time has almost come!!...

Only a few days left until my little girl is born! To be quite honest, I'm getting a little nervous. Not so much about the work involved and stuff like that. Deb and I learned a few things with Patrick and we are a lot less stressed this time around. I AM a little nervous though about making sure both my kids get the attention they deserve. I don't like the idea of giving less attention to Patrick and that has always kind of nagged at me. AND I wish I could give the same amount attention to Kathryn as I did to Patrick. I guess all parents feel like this though so that kind of helps... knowing that i'm not the only one. The funny thing is I wasn't worried at all about it until Deb brought it up last night. Then it hit me like a sack of oranges (No Bruises). Well, i'm just going to take it all in stride like I normally do. That seems to have worked out pretty good so far.

Oh... and Deb will be in the hospital for at least a few days but i'm expecting to get kicked out friday because of my horrible snoring. So I'll post an update here if your looking for one.

Wish us luck!

2 Down, 3 to go!

Well the Haasnoot and Fessenden Christmas's are now over. The Haasnoots' (My Mom's Side) was last Saturday and it was a great time. There was 26 of us, the weather was beautiful, the food was great, and everyone was in good spirits.

We also just celebrated the immediate Fessenden Christmas (Deb's Family) at Debs' parent's place. It was a great time also but seemed to go rather quickly. Deb, Patrick and I headed down there a couple days ago and spent the time semi-relaxing and visiting friends. We then celebrated Christmas yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. The girls (My 3 nieces) were particularly hyped up as only little kids can be. Patrick took it all in stride and spent most of the time watching baby einstien since he wasn't really interested in any gifts. That was kind of expected though so no big deal.

Deb, Patrick and I are now home (Christmas Eve) and are just relaxing. We may or may not go to church/my parents tonight for the Christmas Eve rituals. It depends on how tired we all are. Patrick seems to be going to sleep earlier and earlier so we have to play a lot of things by ear.

Tomorrow, Deb, Patrick and I will have our own little Christmas morning with some gift giving. It will be our first McLaren family Christmas morning to ourselves which we are looking forward to. Then my folks are coming over for breakfast then we'll relax for a few hours. Once Patrick has his nap, we'll head over to my mom and dad's for the McLaren Christmas gathering and supper. Should be a blast!

Lastly, there is a Fessenden Clan Christmas but that won't be until late January and will be at the Mandarin. We'll have Kathryn then so that should be fun.

Anyways, I pulled my neck some how this morning and am in quite a lot of pain so i'm going to go now!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!

FIRST DAY OF HOLIDAYS!!!

That SHOULD make me jumping for joy... except I am fighting off a crummy cold that keeps me up in the night and generally makes me miserable. On the plus side though, it's a sinus cold but I don't have a headache which is a treat!

I took Magoo to school this morning (He's got a sinus thing going on as well so he's got lots of nose goblins), then came back and started helping Deb clean the floors in the house. They are pretty nasty since we haven't done them in awhile. I think Deb and I are both ready to collapse after this. My poor wife hasn't been able to get a decent sleep in weeks and to top it off, she's getting the cold that Patrick and I have. But don't let her know I sympathize... it'll go right to her head.

We've got a pretty busy week planned out. Tonight my folks and sister are coming over for my mom's birthday. Tomorrow I've got a chiro appt, Deb's got an OB appt, then I go vote on a new contract at work tomorrow night. Wednesday... well... I don't know what's going on wednesday but you can be damn sure it'll be exciting! Thursday, we drop Patrick off at school then pack up the van. When Magoo is done, we'll hit McDonalds then drive straight to Orangeville for the Fessy Christmas. We won't make it back until sometime Christmas Eve.

And Now Your Up To Date...

Update Time...

Well as you can see it's been awhile since I last updated the blog. Once Deb got home, it got busy again with me having to work and just general stuff we had to do. The bright side is that I've got 3 more 8 hour days and 1 12 hour day left then I'm on holidays for 2 weeks! In't that souper!

So... to update you... hmmmm... updates... updates... Not a whole lot of updates. I got to use my new snowblower a few times which was great! I did have to make some minor modifications to it though so it could be all that it could be. hehehe

Other then that, just prepping for christmas. Deb and I got all the decorations up one day when Patrick was at school and the following day he was at school, we were able to put up the Christmas tree. The first thing Patrick did when he saw it was start yelling "Lights!!". It was pretty cute.

So yeah... that's about it. I probably forgot to mention a lot of things but that does happen to me on occasion.

I'll try to write soon again

Day 7... Morning

Deb's coming home today!!! WOOHOO!!!

Patrick woke up about 8:10 this morning which was great since I still hadn't gotten much sleep. He was pretty happy and got changed with little fuss. We came downstairs and had breakfast. While Patrick was eating I whipped out the vaccuum and did the main floor and the upstairs. As soon as Magoo got out of his chair though, he spread all his toys all over the floor again. Go Figure!

He played pretty good for me which meant I could also get a little bit of cleaning done around the bathrooms and put the clean dishes away. He had his lunch and was super tired around 11:30 but when I put him in bed, he just complained for 40 mins. So I pulled him out, put on a simpsons, gave him some juice and he was quite content. 12:30 rolled around so I brought him back upstairs and he promptly passed out. I guess he had just a teeny bit more energy he had to get rid of.

I finished off the morning with vaccuuming and tidying up the basement. I still need to have a shower, collect the laundry and collect the garbage before Patrick wakes up and we have to go pick up Deb.

Day 6... Afternoon

The afternoon went well. Patrick woke up at about 2 so he had a good, long nap. We played for awhile then headed out to run some errands and pick up the mail. When we got back, Patrick decided that he wanted to go for a walk around the house rather then head inside even though it was pouring rain. I caught him around the corner but by then it was too late! He had already sat down in a puddle. Go figure. We came inside and I changed him, then he played some more when I made up supper. Unfortunatly, I had nuked up his carrots and on his second bite, he must have had a hot piece because he just started crying. Then I cried... then he laughed... he's such a little trooper!! I got pissed at the carrots for some reason then and tossed them out then gave Patrick his yogurt/cheese which is nice and cool on the mouth and made him a grilled cheese for supper. Hmmmm.. the boy sure likes cheese!

We then proceeded to bathe and come downstairs and have some milk. The poor guy was nearly passing out so I held him off until 7:15 and brought him to bed. As soon as he had his buppy in his mouth, his eyes rolled up and he was nearly out. Maybe he'll sleep in again tomorrow which would be nice!

I finished watching MI:3 and cleaned up the kitchen. About to have a shower then head to bed.
Day 6... Morning

Patrick woke up at about 8:10 this morning which was fantastic!! I did catch a little more sleep last night even though I stayed up late to watch "Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels". It was a really good movie but I know Deb wouldn't have liked it. It was english so the accents were thick and the plot line didn't come together until the very end and she hates that.

Patrick and I took it easy again since we couldn't really go out and do anything since it's ice raining out. We've got about 2 inches of slush covering everything and they are calling for at least 10 cm of snow today. We did take the movies back though and I picked up MI:3 and Alien vs Predator. Another couple movies Deb probably won't want to watch so I should get them now! I'll probably watch one tonight as soon as I finish cleaning up the house. A lil reward for me I suppose. I relax a lot more when I can sit back and enjoy a movie.

Well, that's about it for the morning! Toodles!

Day 5... Afternoon

Patrick and I didn't do a whole lot in the afternoon when he woke up around 1:30. We played, read some books, watched some Simpsons... that was about until my Chiro appt at 4:45. On the way to the chiro, I dropped of my mom's candles. Dad had the christmas tree out and was about to put it up. Once the chiro appt was done, we headed home and had a bite to eat. Shortly afterwards my sister came over for a bit and we just sat and talked while Magoo was watching Baby Eienstien. When she left, it was bath time. Patrick was really good but yawned the whole time. We had a snack then went I put him in bed at 7:30. I myself am going to have a quick shower then head to bed. May watch Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels tonight since they are due back tomorrow.

Ciao!
Day 5... Morning

Well Magoo got up pretty sad this morning at about 7:30. It may have something to do with the weather because I know I'm feeling it at the moment. We both got dressed, had a quick bite to eat then headed to play school. Once again, he started crying as soon as we got in there but stopped shortly afterwards. Good news though is that the candles came in so now people can stop bugging Deb for them!

When Patrick was at Play School, I did a little grocery shopping then headed home and cleaned a little bit. Feeling pretty lethargic though so not a whole lot got accomplished.

I picked up Patrick at about 11am. They were still upstairs because it was raining out which was actually kind of nice. Karen showed me the pictures Patrick had painted and the maccaroni he'd glued onto a sheet. Plus a bunch of new picture of him playing and in the stroller. It was funny because in one picture he's kind of reaching for Deseree's hand (A cute little girl) and all the rest of the pics are of him holding her hand. The only rough thing for him today is he had a little bit of a nose bleed which kind of leads me to think it was the weather again since I had a small one this morning as well.

Patrick had a quick lunch and started crying at the end of it so I took him to bed and he immediatly conked out. Poor little man!

I myself just keep zoning out. I sorted the candles and will probably do some delivery work when Magoo wakes up, but until then... I'm a total space case...

Day 4... Afternoon

The afternoon went pretty well. When Patrick was napping I... hmmm... drawing a blank for some reason. Moving On!!! When Patrick WOKE UP, we played, had snack, then went for a walk down town with Lisa and Bailey. The weather started turning so we headed home shortly afterwards. By this time Patrick was super hungry and tired, which kind of sucked since it was only 4pm. I was able to hold him off until 4:30 by getting him to colour some pictures for me.

When supper was done, I gave Magoo an early bath then he played downstairs whilst I folded the last of the laundry. Mom and Dad came over so mom could watch him while Dad and i went to see Casino Royale. Friggin GREAT movie!

And now i'm typing in the blog. Badda Bing Badda Boom!
Day 4... Morning

Patrick woke up at 8:10 this morning!! It was GREAT! Especially since I barely slept during the night. A toss up between not having Deb home and getting into a Dan Brown novel. Go figure. I even went to bed just before 9 and didn't watch any TV.

Anywho, once breakfast was over and play time was finished, Patrick and I headed out into town to look for more christmas lights. We hit EVERY store in town that would sell them but no one had any left. It ate up a good chunk of time but I'm pretty dissappointed. It was funny to see Patrick though with all the girls out there. He'd wave at all the pretty ones and wouldn't give the time of day to the... ummm... less pretty ones... hehehehehe. The lil guy's a chick magnet!

Once we got home, I snapped off a video of Patrick climbing into his lego basket while I was making his lunch. He didn't see me until he was already in the basket.

Here it is...

Day 3... Afternoon

Once Patrick woke up from his nap (About 1:30), I decided it was a nice day so we would go for a walk. We hit all the car lots in town, then the park, then back home. Took about an hour in total. Once we were back, Patrick read me a few stories and showed me how he could climb the slide then go back down it. We then grabbed a quick snack then headed to the Chiropractors. By this time Patrick was getting sleepy again and a bit cranky but he thought it was pretty neat how his old man can make the strangest sounds when he's turned into a pretzel. Once we finished at the Chiro's, I took Patrick to McDonalds for a late supper. He wolfed down half a thing of fries and 4 nuggets.

By the time we got home, Patrick was a zombie. I decided to forgo the bath and just put him into his PJ's. That woke him up a bit so he helped me change the sheets on the bed and start a load of laundry. Unfortunatly, that sapped his strength so much he could barely eat his cheese at 7. I was able to hold him off till 7:30 but his eyes rolled to the back of his head as soon as he had his buppy in his mouth.

As for me, I just finished tidying up the living room and kitchen. I think it will be an early night for me seeing i haven't gotten much sleep since Deb has gone. 6 hours a night just isn't enough!!
Day 3... Morning

The morning started off too early for my tastes. 6:50am. Patrick was kind of sad and crying when I heard him but as soon as I walked in, he was handing me his buppy's and was all stories. He even laid down for me so I could change him. Being tired myself, I wasn't looking forward to a battle to get him changed but since it went so smoothly, I found myself in a bit better mood.

Once we finished breakfast, Patrick and I began our day with reading stories and playing with puzzles. He did let me sit for awhile and read but it didn't last too long. Eventually he kept going for his seat so we sat down and watched some simpsons on the computer while he had a juice.

We then headed to the basement where I played a little xbox while patrick played with some different toys. He started to yawn pretty early though so we headed back up stairs and sat down for some more simpsons while I made up lunch (Pizza Pockets and Sweet Potatoe). He was finished just after 11 but was nearly falling out of his chair he was so tired.

Now... he's in bed and i'm starting on some laundry. Now your up to date..

Day 2... Afternoon

Well Patrick had a nice long nap until 1:30 so it gave me time to go through my lego's and clean up the slide from outside and put it in the living room. Once Patrick was done his nap, he walked into the living room and just started to giggle as he climbed the slide. I've included a video of it even though it's a bit grainy and the sound is out of sync. I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it.

On the menu for tonight is Tuna and Pea's on toast. If I can find the recipe that is...

Anyways... I'll let ya know how it goes.

Day 2 - Morning

The morning kind of started off rough since I woke up with a headache (Might be because of the crummy weather). Patrick woke up happy though at about 7:15 so it was all good. He had a big breakfast consisting of a whole bannana, half a waffle and nearly a whole cup of milk. He then played for a bit while I tidy'd up, then off to school. I took a round about way of getting there while he talked to me the whole time and didn't start crying until we were in the vestibule. Karen came and took him and as they went around the corner, all I could hear was a collective "awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" from all the other girls in there. I swear he has them eating out of his hand!!!

As for me... I cleaned the house a bit, surfed online for about 1/2 hour then went for a walk to get some fresh air and clear my head. When I got back, I went through my night stand table. WHAT A MESS!!! But I DID find a whole bunch of lego which got me thinking. I'm going to set up a shelf downstairs in my room and put all my lego's on it assembled. I've got a few star wars sets (Tie Fighter, A-Wing from university, a smaller set from christmas, plus a whole bunch of various space sets when I was a kid.) The trick will be finding all the pieces and instructions so that may be a project for this afternoon when Patrick is napping. Depends on how I feel. It also requires me to build a shelf.... so I REALLY have to be motivated.

Anyways... I'll try and update you tonight with how the afternoon went.

Just Me and The Boy....

You heard me right!! The two hot studssssssssssss are bach'ing it this week! Deb decided it would be a good idea for her to go to Orangeville and be with her mom as she recovers from an emergency appendectomy (She'll be alright... just going to take time to heal).

I dropped Deb off in Chatsworth where her Dad came and picked her up this afternoon while Patrick napped and my Mom watched over him.

So far... things have gone splendidly. Patrick had a bit of an early supper consisting of Pea's, Juice and several pieces of garlic bread. No doubt he'll smell like a pizzaria in no time. We're just playing right now before bath time. He's pretty happy so when he starts rubbing his eyes, I'll take him up for it.

Later tonight I'll go through his clothes and pick out what he's going to wear to play school tomorrow so I don't have to think too much in the morning.

Well... now you're up to date! Keep watching for further developements AS THEY HAPPEN!!

A Little Update...

To begin with, I started seeing a chiropractor after I pulled my back a couple weeks ago. Deb has been going for awhile now and thinks it's just great so I thought "What The Hell?! Couldn't make my back worse!". Sweet Merciful Crap was I ever Wrong!!! They are snapping and cracking and moving things that were.. in my opinon... never meant to be moved and the whole time I'm thinking to myself, "I'm paying these people to actually DO this to me??". It's like paying for sex but as soon as you have you're clothes off... they whip out the jumper cables and batteries!! Anyways, I'm seeing them 3 times a week for the moment because they said i'm so screwed up and it will take awhile to get things into alignment. I'll give them this though... the thing they do with the ears and trying to pull them off my head... Does seem to clear my sinuses. That may be because i've cried from the pain so much that there is nothing left in there but who knows!!

I also had a couple of my buddies up this weekend for a guys weekend. Well... we were suppose to do a little tree trimming in the back then play a lot of Xbox, get drunk, and play poker with a whole bunch of guys from work. We got the tree trimmed a bit but not as much as I had hoped because we didn't want to drop large branches on my shed roof or the nieghbors fence. We did play a lot of Xbox which was great. Didn't get drunk... but that's no big deal. I did have a lot of beers and tried quite a few new ones which was cool but they were so staggard I didn't even get a buzz which is weird. I usually buzz after 2. Oh well. The poker thing did tick me off though. All the guys from work bailed on us!! Stoopid Bastards!!! That's the second time that's happened so no more poker at my house!! The coolest thing though this weekend is that my best bud asked me to be one of the groomsmen in his wedding. He said I probably just assumed that I would be but he had to make it formal and ask me before he got too drunk and forgot again. Dumbass. hehehe

Well... that's my story and i'm sticking to it!

Friday, October 20, 2006

Oh Nuts!

Well I've gone and done a bad thing. At work yesterday I was showing a new guy how to... well... that's a long and complicated story but it involved heavy lifting while on a mobile staircase. Anyways, I twisted wrong while placing a heavy object on top of a container and heard a little "pop" in my upper back. About an hour later I had a hard time breathing because my back hurt so much. THIS SUCKS!! Granted it is feeling a bit better after a night of restless sleep and a whole whack of A5-35. But any big plans I had for doing outside work this weekend are shot. Now i'm not sure what to do with myself. There is playing with Patrick which I was going to do anyways but i'm finding i'm having a hard time sitting on the floor with him for more then a couple minutes before my back starts to throb. No rough and tumble play by the looks of it!

I suppose I'll figure something out.

OH! And today is my 3 year anniversary for working at Bruce Power. It's hard to believe we've been up here that long! I think Deb, Patrick and I are going to head to the Queen's for supper to celebrate.

Have a great day everyone!

I got my snowblower finally!!!

Stupid ass snowblower was the hardest thing in the world to get (See my wife's post because i'm sure as hell not going to type all that out again!)
Anyways, I got home early today from work and tried it out. Seems to work well. I started it up fine. Have to wait for snow for the real test though. Probably won't have to wait long since they are calling for snow starting tonight and it's only October 11th!!
Not too much else new in the world that I can think of. Patrick is growing like a weed and getting smarter every day. He's really enjoying Play School by the sounds of it but still hates it when we take him there. He cries like a banshee for the first few minutes until we leave. Then calms right down.

Deb is doing good. She looks uber pregnant right now which suits her very well. :) I'm so lucky I have a hot wife!!
Myself I went to a train show in brampton a couple weeks back. Was a Great experience and can't wait to go to another one! However I still don't have a controller and a train which blows but the controller I was looking at was over $600 and I couldn't really justify that kind of money at the moment. Oh well... I figured it would take me a few years to get into it properly.
Anywho... now your updated!

Monday, September 25, 2006

Hmmmm... It's been awhile

I thought I should attempt to update this thing since it's been so long! Not too much new going on this side of the screen. In the last few weeks i've taken a trip to Perth with my father to see my Nana, and worked a cobalt pull at work. For those who don't know what cobalt is, it's used to irradiate food before it goes on the market. Lasts longer that way. That pull took up a lot of time. I worked basically 2 weeks straight and my only day off was spent going to a co-workers wedding (Which was very nice by the way).

Other then that, not too much else has been going on with me lately. Patrick attempted his first morning at play school last week but it didn't go over too well. He basically went into overload and not even Deb could console him (She spent the whole time with him to get him adjusted). We think it was from a lack of sleep (he was really tired) and the new environment. Deb was really worried that it wasn't going to work but she came up with a new plan of action with him and will attempt it this week. He'll go in for the morning and when he's settled a bit, Deb will leave. She'll come pick him up at the end of thier outdoor time which is a couple hours later. This way he only has one transition (Indoor to outdoor) and won't have to do the lunch thing yet. He is the youngest one there so its a bit much for him. We'll try this out for a couple weeks and maybe start extending the time he's there down the road. I know Deb was pretty upset after the whole experience and I couldn't think of anything else that day while I was at work but we both feel this is the best way for him to start getting more socialization skills and prepare him for real school. It is only a couple mornings a week and we're sure he'll have fun if he gives it a chance.

Well once again you're up to date in my life. This is my last day off then back to work for 3 days. Shouldn't be too bad at work. Just training new people. I'm hoping to find out this week when i'm going to Bruce A plant and what my new shift will be. I'm kind of hoping straight monday to friday but you never know. I get more overtime on the shift i'm on now which will be nice when Sprout comes along and i'm on parental leave.

Anyways... Talk at ya later!

Wednesday, September 06, 2006

Well I got it fixed… but I’m all alone!

First off… Patrick and Deb have gone to my inlaws place in Orangeville for the week. I’m working a lot and although I have the weekend off, I’m heading to Perth with my father to see my Nana. I haven’t seen her since my Papa passed away in January so it will be nice to see her again. The other reason Deb and Patrick went this week is because it will really be the last time they will be able to do that. Patrick is enrolled in play school which starts in a couple weeks so that will put the Kibosh on any future week long trips.

Now… onto other news. My iPod now works. I gave it to my sister and her boyfriend and they reset it on their computer, which confirmed it was my software and conflicts on my system that was giving me all the hassle. So while Deb and Patrick were gone, I reformatted our laptop and reinstalled the basics. Everything seems to be working well now except for an occasional blue screen of death that pops up when I have something plugged into the USB. I’m not too worried since we so rarely have anything plugged in and I don’t really feel like screwing around in the BIOS. I get frustrated enough and this is a problem I can live with.

So, now your up to date… and I’m tired and want to go to bed.

Stupid Friggin iPod!!!!

Well I FINALLY got my iPod! It was the second one on ebay. The first one I purchased never came and I had to dispute it with Paypal. I got my money back but still… pain in the ass.

I purchased another iPod through ebay, this time with a colour screen and a 20gig hard drive. I figured it would be great to load up audio books and listen to them on the way to and from work. The iPod was only a year old and was suppose to work great. And it did… for about a day. I had a hard time getting it recognized on my computer and it would only show up some times when I tried to put new songs on it. The apple site and my sister (whom had this problem with her iPod) said to restore it to factory settings. It should take care of the problem. Well I tried that… and tried… and tried. It kept giving me an error that the firmware wouldn’t update. Which is bad… really bad. It means I can’t use my iPod at all now. I’m not sure where the problem is. It could be in my computer which has prompted me to do a format and restore on it (I had been meaning to for awhile now) but still. If it doesn’t work… I’m going to throw a major wobbly!! Deb and Patrick are going to her folks this week so I’ll try working on it after work this week.

YEESH!!!

NOTHING is ever easy for me. I’m serious!!

My Week Off…

Well I’m 3 days into my week off and I’m enjoying it immensely! The thing of it is though, all the time off I had this summer, it was occupied doing large projects. Be it building a deck for my parents, helping rebuild a shed for my in-laws, or redoing a room for Patrick, I always had something on the go. This time around, I’ve had a lot more free time and not quite sure what to do with it. I wouldn’t mind going out golfing or seeing some friends of mine but the problem is it’s during the week and no one is around. Plus since I do have this time off, I’d feel guilty taking off for an afternoon or a night and leaving Deb with Patrick. This mainly for 2 reasons; Number 1, when I’m home, Deb gets a break (Even though she says she doesn’t like me home because I screw up her schedule) and Number 2, I want to spend as much time with Patrick as I can. You can see my dilemma.

Oh well… maybe I’ll figure something out as the week goes on. I’ll try to keep you posted.

I Fixed It!!!....

And better yet... I did it without electrocuting myself... again.

To rewind a little bit, I came home monday night (9ish) and the nursery and Patrick's room had no power except for one receptacle. I got my handy, dandy tester out and it said I had a ground/hot reverse which blows. Usually means that the hot wire is grounding somewhere which could be in a wall (Which Deb had just painted). It also means that getting near a receptacle can be dangerous because it's easy to get a shock. I know this first hand. Last time this happen, I lost the hair on my right hand and forgot my name for 20 mins... But it was fixed when I came to! I just didn't want to have to shock myself again to fix it.

Anywho... long story short, I replaced the remaining receptacles, cleaned out the boxes, cut and taped all the wire inside each one and now it works... WITHOUT the shock therapy. WOOHOO!

In the words of a great great man... "If they don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

Ultrasound Results!

Well It's official!!! Deb's having a... ummm... healthy..... ummmm... very shy baby... :) Sprout wouldn't uncross it's legs so we never got a clear shot of the sex. The technician and I thought it might be a girl for the first half of the ultrasound then weren't so sure for the second half. Oh well!! As long as Sprouts Healthy!!!

Lets try this again!!

This is the third time I’ve tried writing in the blog! I get pretty well done then the dumb thing erases everything except the first sentence. I get frustrated and just leave it. This time… on the advice from Anna, I’m typing it in word and just copying it over.

Getting on with things… I had 3 weeks vacation which I spent going to a great wedding in Shelburne for my friends Josh Fender and Lisa Scarfo. Outdoor wedding… beautiful day…. Great food…. All around great wedding! Congrats you two!

Then we spent the following week and a bit at my in-laws house helping my Father-in-law replace the roof on his shed and side the whole thing. It was a homemade shed that was pretty big. Took a long time plus I got wicked sunburn the first day so it made the rest of the days so much longer.

Moving along, we came home and spent a couple days on Patrick’s new room and closet. The whole room was sanded, painted and the closet was built from the ground up. A LOT of work but it really turned out well. Patrick moved in shortly afterwards and seems to be happy.

My in-laws came up shortly after and my father-in-law and I moved top soil from my pool area and spread it around the lawn in the dead spots. I also used some to build up and level off the side of the house so when I put a fence in there… it should be close to even and will look nice. The problem is, I reburned my shoulders and arms so it was VERY tiresome and painful. However, while doing this work, I did come up with an idea to extend my pool fence and build a nice, large deck for my pool area. Should look good. Maybe next year or this fall, I’ll get started on it.

I then worked for 3 days. I figured I would be going to work to an easy few days but it turns out they had problems while I was away so when I returned, we were doing some pretty serious jobs with only a couple of experienced people (everyone else was on vacation). Long story short and not to get too complicated, we ended up trouble shooting to no end for the 3 days. VERY frustrating.

Now on to this week. I have yet another week off which is nice. Just taking things easy and doing a few things around the house. Deb has started redoing and painting the nursery for Sprout. She really wants to get it done quickly because I go back to work next week and it will be solid for several months so she won’t have time to do too much.

And that’s my life in a nutshell up to this point.

OH! I also saw Superman returns and Pirates of the Caribean: Dead man’s chest. Both excellent movies.

Back To Normal Sort Of....

I have my family back!!!! It was hard last week not having them around. It's nice having this week off to be with them! There are 2 big changes though.

1. Deb hit second trimester and has a lot more energy now! She rarely naps now and usually can't sleep at night because she has too much energy or is restless.
2. Patrick has dropped a nap and now sleeps until 8ish... well... he DID when we first got home. Deb actually had to wake him up one morning. But now he's starting to get up earlier and earlier again. I have to fix the blind in his room because i'm hoping that's what's getting him up and nothing complicated that I can't fix!

Not much else new going on here. We're gutting one of the bedrooms and re-doing it for Patrick's new room. I'm hoping that we'll have the carpet out and maybe even a coat of primer on the walls by the end of the day today. We still have to pick out the paint colour but it will be some sort of blue. It's coming along quite nicely!

Lastly, I like having my paper towels all over the place because when you need it, you need it RIGHT NOW! And I always make sure there is a toilet paper roll close at hand if the other is about to run out!

So Lonely!

I MISS MY FAMILY!!!! Deb and Patrick are with Deb's parents this week while I work 6 out of 7 days. You would think it would be nice having the place to myself but I don't sleep well when they aren't home and I miss coming home to Deb and Patrick! They only possible good thing coming out of this is I may be able to do a bit of work around the house AND if I took them for granted at all while they were here, I won't do it again for a long time!

On other news, we celebrated fathers day at my inlaws place last saturday. Patrick and Deb got me 2 books on railroads with LOTS of pictures! It was SUCH a thoughtful gift that it makes all my gifts to them look like crap! I don't know how or IF I can top it! But I'll certainly try!

Anyways, I should get going. I want to install deb's Laundry hangar thingy in the backyard. Forgive me for not rememebering what it's called. I'm having a bit of a brain cramp this week!

I Just Used EBAY!!!!

I just bought an Ipod off of Ebay!!! The one I had bid on was about $200+shipping... and I lost it. But I was just going through the latest ones and I found one for $179+shipping and that was a BUY NOW. So I figured since Deb allowed me to go to $200.... i could get one for cheaper then that!! But now I need to know how to pay for the damn thing and Deb is asleep. So now i'll have to wait till morning. BLECH! Now I actually won't MIND taking the bus to and from work!! I can listen to audio books!!! WOOHOO!!!!
Update Time!

To begin with, we informed the rest of family and friends that hadn't already heard that Deb was pregnant with our second child!! We told my side of the family at a 30th wedding anniversary party my sister and I through for my mom and dad. They put a picture of Patrick up while he was wearing a t-shirt saying he was going to be a big brother. I'd post the picture but for some reason I haven't figured that out yet. Just look at my wife's blog!

Next, I worked a couple overtime night shifts this week to stock up my banked time. Should be good. I'll have most of july and a bit of august off now. I hated doing the nights though. I think i'm going to be getting a restriction at work so I won't work them again. It kinda closes a door for shift but that's fine by me. Deb doesn't like sleeping alone in the house anyways.

Lastly, I've got 2 of my best buds coming up this weekend. We're installing the breaker panel in my shed then golfing for the afternoon. Just not sure where yet. The two courses I wanted to golf at are having tournements this weekend which kinda blows. May have to go to a more expensive course.

Deb is heading to the ballet with friends on saturday night from 6:30 to 9 so the guys and I get to take care of Patrick all by ourselves!! We'll part with all our accumulated knowledge and give him a headsup on how to get in and out of mischief.... just not sure what we're going to do with the other 2 hours and 27 minutes.... I'm sure we'll find something though... GUYS NIGHT!!! WOOHOO!!!

Half Baked

It's been a lil while since I last wrote in here and I apologize for those of you who actually read this thing. It's been a busy few weeks. Patrick's birthday parties (Yes we had 2. One for family and one for friends and they both went FAB-YOU-LUSS!). Then I went on a business trip to MDS Nordion in Ottawa to tour thier Cobalt and Radio-Pharma... Pharma... hmmm... Radioactive Drugs! It was actually really facinating and the guys and I had a lot of fun hanging out in the pool, playing poker, touring the Exotic locals of Ottawa, etc. I Haven't been on a guy outing in a long time so it was kind of refreshing. My only 2 complaints were #1, they put me on the top floor of the hotel and I'm afraid of hights so everytime I stepped in my room, I got nervous. And #2. I forgot my swim trunks and ended up buying a pair that I THOUGHT were large but were actually medium and I tore the crotch out of them on the water slide. Not that I'm ashamed of my... er... ummm... genitilia... but flashing them around the hotel as I tried to get back to my room.... not fun. Especially taking the elevator with my boss and a strange lady.

Moving on.. I titled this blog "Half Baked" because i'm all dopey on tylenol 1's (which I didn't think was possible anymore), for a headache caused by this storm front that moved in.

So.... Yah... ummmm... not sure what else to write... so... ummm.... I'm just going to sit here and look cool for awhile. Night

Another long week done

Well our second birthday party for Patrick has come and gone. We think it was a success even though Patrick was sick from his 1 year shots. He seemed to enjoy having the other kids around and going to the park with them :) It was just a little cold though which kinda sucked.

Not too much else new going on. Working a lot which kinda sucks but you have to do what you have to do. I'd normally have a week off next week but the guys and I are taking a business trip to Ottawa for 3 days. Should be a nice change of pace. Take a tour, play some poker, relax in the pool. Fun Fun.

Well I should get going... my darling wife is standing over my shoulder and i'm afraid to mention going to the nudie bar with the guys while she's there.... OOPS!! Oh Damn It!!! Think It!! Don't Type It!!!!

Patrick's A Year Old!!!!!

Holy Smokes! I can't believe he's a year old today! About this time last year Deb and I were on the way to the hospital for a scheduled C-Section. I was SOOOOOOOOOO nervous I could barely eat! And I wasn't the one having surgery!! Anyways... that was a year ago. Today and everyday after his birth is just as important to me. Everyone says having kids will change your life which is true... but words don't give it justice because it also changes you in such a fundemental way. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for Patrick and I know that on a most primal level.

Moving on... we did a lot to prepare for today this entire week. It's hard to believe it's here already. I brought Patricks gift downstairs while Deb was changing him. It's a sort of one sided house with light switches and a radio and lights and etc. Since he is just army crawling I don't think he'll be able to crawl through the door but time will fix that. He really seems to enjoy it so it's all good!

I'll give you an update on the days events later on but for now... I have to go make breakfast and water some flowers before everyone shows up!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATRICK!!

Another Day... Another Sore Body Part!

Well I pretty well got our deck fixed. It looks really good but boy was it tricky trying to put that lattice up with 60km/h winds!!! I nearly took off a few times!! I would have looked like a cross between a chubby Mary Poppins and Tim the Tool Man. The picutre would have been complete if i'd been wearing my early 19th century, victorian dress.... but it makes my ass look big and the lace is a bitch to get clean once you get dirt on it. Moving on though... it's really starting to shape up out there. I just have a bit of trim and leveling out the surrounding dirt then i'm done. I figure I can do that tomorrow morning when Patrick is napping and Deb is gone to Owensound with Mom to do some grocery shopping.

I can't believe in a couple more days Patrick will be 1 year old!!??!! Now that he's learning words and kinda walking around with the use of furniture, it's starting to hit me just how friggin old I am! I was told today by a friend of mine that "I had to set an example for him so no drinking"... well, I paraphrased it a lil but it's my blog and I'll say what I want!! Anywho... back to setting examples... Me??? Set an example??? yeesh... that's like taking swimming lessons from a dead guy. Sure you may learn how to float pretty good but it ain't going to be pretty!

Well... I should get going to bed. Long day today and most of the muscles in my body hurt.

HURRAY!!! A WEEK OFF!!

Bout bloody time too if you ask me! I just finished up a busy couple weeks at work and now have a week off. I was really looking forward to it to because i'll get to spend some quality time with Patrick and Deb. Patrick seems to be growing in intelligence by leaps and bounds the last few weeks and I've missed some of it which really irks me. I guess I'll get over it though. I can't be with him 24/7!

The week seems to be shaping up to be a busy one. I have to finish repairing the deck and get my BBQ all set up and secured outside. Finish taking all the spare wood and cut tree's to the dump. Prepare for Patrick's BD party on Saturday. I also want to clear out around the shed all the gravel and level it off... try to make it look nice. LOTS OF WORK! Deb and I are already planning a movie/pizza night on the friday to unwind and relax. I think i'm looking forward to that the most. Just to sit back and relax!

Well... I guess I should go. I'm writing this because I couldn't sleep. Have plans for repairing the deck whizzing through my brain and If i'm not careful, they could hit something important and i'll forget how to go to the bathroom or something!

Here's what religion I should be according to a poll. I think it's pretty close with my own beliefs:

You scored as Buddhism.
Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Buddhism. Do more research on Buddhism and possibly consider becoming Buddhist, if you are not already. In Buddhism, there are Four Noble Truths: (1) Life is suffering. (2) All suffering is caused by ignorance of the nature of reality and the craving, attachment, and grasping that result from such ignorance. (3) Suffering can be ended by overcoming ignorance and attachment. (4) The path to the suppression of suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path, which consists of right views, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right-mindedness, and right contemplation. These eight are usually divided into three categories that base the Buddhist faith: morality, wisdom, and samadhi, or concentration. In Buddhism, there is no hierarchy, nor caste system; the Buddha taught that one's spiritual worth is not based on birth.

Good Friday

It's been about a week and a bit since I last wrote in here. It's not my fault!! REALLY!!! Deb and I went away last weekend for a get away in St. Catharines. It was really relaxing and we had a great time. My only complaint was that I was supposed to get my train and the controller at a hobby shop they had down there but they didn't have what I wanted. So I ended up getting a few books and 40 feet of track instead. Oh well... I found a hobby shop in Hanover which looks promising.

When we got home on Sunday, Patrick was so happy to see us yet he had a really good time with Grandma Dot and Grampy Paul. They spoiled him rotten which I guess is what grandparents are supposed to do!

Then I had to work most of the week which really sucked because I missed Patrick pulling himself up, start crawling, walking along furniture and yelling "Kitty" at the cats! Go figure. I DID get a excellent surprise of my own though! I went in to check on Patrick before my shower on Wednesday and he was in his crib on his belly just chatting away. He looked up at me and said "Daddy!" I was totally blown away! It made the rest of the day fly by because I was on cloud 9!

Anywho... that brings us up to today.... hmmm... not much to report yet. I've got the weekend off which is really nice. Get to spend time with Deb and Patrick which I miss. So I'll update ya later!

Thursday, April 06, 2006

Well, as my darling wife has said, I should really update this!

Deb & Patrick just got back from her mom and dad's in Orangeville yesterday. They were gone for just under a week which was a couple days too long in my books. It wasn't so bad at first because I worked for the first 4 days but I fould after a couple nights with only the cats as company, the house felt empty! I WAS able to get a few things done though while they were away though. I replaced a couple of wall sockets in the living room to match the rest in the house. Plus the one had corroded/burnt wires so it was a bit of a fire hazard. I was also able to nearly complete my train table in the basement. It looks really good but needs a couple more things to complete it.

Concerning the train... I guess I should update anyone who reads this! I've been interested in starting my own model train set for a long time but really got into it a few years back when I met my father-in-law who already had one. He kind of got me started thinking more seriously about it. So when Deb and I went looking for a house, one of the things I was looking for was a room that I could build my own set in. First Objective... CHECK.

Secondly, I had to build a table in which I could store things underneath it because I couldn't in good concious, have a room ENTIRELY devoted to trains. It had to be practical too (So Deb told me in no uncertain terms), so the train table would be a little different then normal ones in that respect. May make wiring a little more tricky but where there's a will, there's a way! So I finished the base of the shelves and table last year. Second Objective... CHECK.

Thirdly, I had to build the top of the table that would hold the styrene and make it look pleasing to the eye. I was able to accomplish that when Deb & Patrick were away this week. I work a lot better at this kind of stuff when I'm alone. I'm not very handy and subsquently, tend to make a lot of mistakes. This in turn leads to my frustration level going way up and I'll take it out on anyone or anything around. I do NOT want to take it out on Patrick and Deb because that's totally unfair so it's best that when I do these major projects, no one is in the house. Anywho.... Third Objective... CHECK!

Now, onto the fourth objective, the planning of the layout and it's controllers. This was roughly done right from the beginning in order for me to design and build my table. I always had a rough idea what I wanted. A mid 1800's to early 1900's mining train with a mountain in the middle of the table, a switch yard, small mining community and a mine. Basically lots of scenery. I also knew I wanted to get into N-Scale modeling because it offered tighter turn radiuss and smaller track. IE. I could get more bang for my buck when it comes to size. I was able to semi-finalize my plans while Deb and Patrick were gone but I don't think you can ever be fully finalized when it comes to something like this. I have decided i'm going to go with a Digital Command Control (DCC for short) set. This simply means that instead of the old way of having a train set where you had different "Blocks" for power and you basically controlled the track with switches rather then controlling your trains, you put out one steady current to the whole track and each train or turnout had a chip that would recognize when a signal is sent to it and do what it was told. This simply means I can control everything on the track a little more easily. Up until yesterday, I thought wiring for this system would be a snap. Sodder on a wire to each track from the controller and I was set. Upon further research though, I found out it is better to sodder on wire to each 3 foot section.... and turnouts can be rather complicated.... CRAP! I'm going to have to learn a lot of basic electrical principles!! Oh well... It could be fun. Just as long as I don't screw up a lot of track! Anyways... this objective is almost complete.

Deb and I are heading to St. Catharines this weekend for a get away. It will be my first time back since I moved here 2 1/2 years ago and really miss the city. It also has ontario's largest hobby shop so I'll be able to purchase my train, track and hopefully all the equipment I need, Plus ask a lot of questions! Deb may want to go out shopping or something during that time because I figure i'll be a good hour or more.

Well... you're basically caught up with my hobby now. I'm sure I'll have other stuff to report today as I think of it... but for now, Patrick is actually getting tired of watching Baby Einstien so I think we should go play some more!
